today we’ll look at the philips airfryer reviews.
It’s been described as “The Darth Vader of Air Fryers”. Perhaps this curvy little contraption does look a bit like Darth Vader’s helmet! All the more charming to place on your countertop, am I wrong? Not only is this Airfryer handsome in it’s own menacing Sith Lord way, it’s a heck of a performer too boot!
The Philips Airfryer claims to be the original Air Fryer. Philips is currently the best selling brand of Air Fryer, and is constantly bringing new models into the marketplace. There is a lot of hype surrounding the Philips Airfryer, with over 7 million units sold. Gordon Ramsay himself endorses this Air Fryer, calling it “the original and the best”. Check out our philips airfryer reviews.
Are we to believe all of this hype? Is the Philips Airfryer Lord Vader Edition worth the price tag? Let’s take a closer look at it, shall we?

The Philips Airfryer set the standard for the modern Air Fryer. It is a compact and minimalistic design that is understated yet pleasant to look at. It doesn’t take up too much counter space, and at 16 pounds, you won’t have too much trouble moving it around.
Personally, I like the design of the Philips Airfryer. The design blends in well with my black and stainless steel appliances. That being said, nothing about it really pops out at you… other than the fact that it does resemble Darth Vader’s helmet a bit.
The Philips Airfryer is available in two colors, a deep black, and for those of you looking for something a little brighter, a crispy clean bright white! Both of them look nice, but I prefer the black.
Philips really puts a lot of effort into advertising their copyrighted “Star Fish” design on the bottom of the pan. This is supposed to improve air circulation throughout the unit.
The basket and pan fit together nicely and the basket slides in and out of the main unit smoothly. The basket IS dishwasher safe, so you can clean it up with ease. I have heard of reports that say that the starfish design at the bottom of the pan is a little more difficult to clean, but I don’t see that as any kind of a deal breaker. We recommend the philips airfryer reviews.
Controls and Ease of Use
There are no frills to be had in the controls department. The Philips Airfryer features 2 analogue dials for temperature and time. The timer has an auto power off feature which is really nice because when the timer runs out, your unit will automatically be powered down.
I don’t have a problem with analogue controls. With a flick of the wrist, I can quickly set my Temperature and Time as opposed to pushing a button several times. There is a little guess work when first starting out though.
I have seen some reviews of customers wishing they had chosen the digital version, which features built in settings for popular types of food like chicken, fries, or fish which you won’t find on this unit. Overall, the controls are simple yet functional.
There is a digitally controlled model (Philips HD9230) if your prefer digital to analogue controls. The Air fryer itself is the same as the Philips HD9220.
Capacity is important to think about when considering an Air Fryer. You might be cooking for yourself or for a group of people, so you’ll want to choose an Air Fryer that can handle what you intend to throw at it.
The Philips Air Fryer features a relatively small basket that can handle up to 1.75pds of food, which is the equivalent of a bag of frozen french fries. If you are cooking for one or two people, this will probably not be an issue for you. If you are frequently cooking for 3 or more people, you might want to check out larger options like the Philips XL. We will discuss the philips airfryer reviews.
Philips Airfryers are widely renowned for outstanding performance. The Original Philips is no exception. It will cook a bag of frozen french fries in about 23 minutes, which is really now the standard for a higher quality Air Fryer.
The Star Fish design in the pan is supposed to help circulate air more effectively. The Philips Airfryer definitely cooks your food thoroughly, but I can’t say it’s far better than some of the other Air Fryers I have used. Overall, the Philips Airfryer will perform as good or better than any other brand out there.
With the current price on Amazon at $195.99, the Philips Airfryer is a little pricey for what you get, although you are getting a top of the line Air Fryer. Philips does advertise more than most companies, and I’m sure Gordon Ramsay’s endorsement comes at a price, so I can only assume that you are paying a little for that.
Bottom line, this is a premium product at a premium price. There are cheaper options that might better suit your needs, but I doubt you will regret purchasing the Philips HD9220 if you decide that all of your needs are met with it.
The Round Up
Overall, I really like the Philips Original Airfryer. If you are looking for the best performing no frills Airfryer that will cook food for up to 1-2 people at a time, you can’t go wrong with this one. The design and controls are both simple and effective.
The basket is dishwasher safe and the overall unit is easy to clean. If you are more budget concerned, you can find other options that will perform well at a better price point. It would be nice to know if there is actually a warranty included, but if you are concerned about it, customer service for Philips is usually knowledgeable and helpful. This is the philips airfryer reviews.
The included cookbook is a nice touch. It is filled with Chef Ramsay’s recipes, which are always impressive looking dishes. If you are looking for more home style recipes, you might want to check out my Recommended Air Fryer Cookbooks .
It is worth noting that there are more accessories available for the Philips Airfryers than any other. So, even though there aren’t any accessories included in the box outside of the cookbook, they are readily available. You can check out my Air fryer Accessories page for some recommendations.
Overall Score: A-
